Yarrangobilly

Yagby has some of the most decorated caves that NUCC visits. It also contains some of the coldest caves in Australia. There is a variety of dry and wet caves with a few underground streamway passages. There is no ropework in our frequently visited caves here so they are perfect for beginners. There is even a thermal pool for those who want to relax after a day’s caving. We often visit:

Directions

It is about a 3 hour drive from Canberra to Yagby via Cooma and Adaminaby which is our usual route. There is also the option of going down through Tharwa and taking the Boboyan road to bypass Cooma.

Facilities

Yagby has a nice big campground that comes with two pit toilets, a river, and a homestead named Cotterill’s cottage. We sometimes stay in the cottage and sometimes tent outside it. Other cavers use the cottage, so be prepared to sleep outside in case it is full. Campfires are allowed in winter thankfully as it can get below freezing at night.
